Oosthuizen retains IBO super middleweight title after knocking out Yannick - Boxing news
Thomas Oosthuizen, the current International Boxing Organisation (IBO) super middleweight champion, knocked out his Saturday night’s opponent Serge Yannick, and successfully defended his gold for the fourth consecutive time.
The two men were scheduled to headline the pay-per-view compiled by Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions. The 12-round bout took place at Emperor’s Palace situated in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa.
Thomas, well known as the ‘Tommy Gun’, has been in a total 18 brawls and came out victorious in 17. Since the inception of his career he has never lost even a single bout. The 23-year-old has fought many great names such as Saul Roman, William Gare and others.
The young South African caught media’s eye when he collected a draw decision against Isaac Chilemba, the current WBO number six ranked light heavyweight. Serge, on the other hand, was entering in his career’s 16th brawl. He has won a total 14 bouts and collected
7 of his wins by knockout.
Serge, 29, also boasted an intimidating feat in his resume. The Aussie has a huge convincing split decision win over Shannon Taylor in which the young lad grasped the vacant PABA and WBA Pan African super middleweight titles. The 12-round skirmish kicked
off and Tommy put forth the boxing universe his career’s best ever performance.
Tommy started the things and kept on pummelling Serge brutally. The Aussie brawler was unable to answer Tommy’s lethal fists that kept on damaging his face and gave him many significant scars. With the start of the second round everyone saw a bulged out
right eye and blood showering out of Serge’s nose, an example as to how much powerful Tommy’ punches were.
Thomas took optimum advantage of his height. With a six inch four feet height, Thomas covered a huge reach and was visibly standing away from Serge at a very long distance. Serge faced serious difficulty and got frustrated since he was not able to connect
maximum strikes. In addition it was Serge who was getting bloodied all the way and Thomas didn’t even get a scratch.
Almost close to the end of the bout, Serge started to get close to Thomas and gave him an upper cut that bloodied Thomas’ right upper eye portion. But this upper cut was not enough to stop the top ranked super middleweight. The bout entered in the sixth
round and hardly continued since in the 47th second Thomas threw his decisive blow and knocked Serge out cold.
Thomas successfully defended his title for the fourth consecutive time and now has 18 wins in his account with 13 of them by knockout. The Aussie Serge has collected his career’s second defeat and the first by knockout.
