Question:

Open Adoptions - not babies?

What do you think about open adoptions that involve older children (not babies) that have been matched up with "new parents" after living with their divorced/single mother for the majority of their childhood? I find it heart-breaking. 2 of the 3 children have been sent to live with "new parents". The children are all under 12. Thoughts?

  1. I think it is hard for kids to separate from their parents after the age of 1  at least. After they are a year old they form a bond with their parent especially their mothers, and as they get even older they have memories. And up until 12 that is most of their childhood, so I agree it is very heart breaking. It will definitely effect the child. However, it also depends on how bad the circumstances are with the single or divorced mother are like if the child is being abused or neglected then it might be in the child's best interest. Either way it is hard on the child.
