Open day four latest from St Andrews: woe for Woods
It's the final day at this year's Open Championship, and with leaders Louis Oosthuizen and Paul Casey just teeing off on the first hole (go on Paul!), how are some of the lowlier names on the leaderboard getting on this afternoon?
Tiger Woods isn't accustomed to being referred to as a lowlier name, but he might have to start getting used to it. St Andrews has been kind to Woods in the past, but having found birdies on the 1st and 3rd, the world No. 1 seems to be hitting a dodgy patch, with two double bogeys on the 4th and 7th sending him back down the board, two-over on the day, one-under for the tournament. Woods is currently tied for 44th place, and any challenge he may have hoped of mounting for the win has surely departed.
Soren Kjeldsen got off to a fine start, the Dane hitting three birdies and an eagle on the 9th, though bogeys on the 7th and 8th and a double on the 14th mean he's still just two-under, both for the round and the tournament.
Fellow Scandinavian Fredrik Andersson-Hed has also found an early eagle too, Andersson-Hed pitching in on the seventh to cheers from the gallery, though the Swede has already hit a bogey and a double on the 5th to see him one-over for the day, one-under for the tournament.
Last year's winner, Stewart Cink, hasn't really figured in this tournament, and today's round looks unlikely to change that; the American is two-over after 13 holes, taking him to one-over for the Championship. John Daly finished on the same score after carding a final round of one-over.
Mark Calcavecchia was in second place after the second day's play, but the American has plunged down the rankings since then, three-over today and one-over for the tournament after carding five bogeys up to the 13th; Calcavecchia had a disastrous round yesterday, with three bogeys on the first three holes and then a double on the 5th, and he scarcely looks like recovering over the last five holes.
Colin Montgomerie's challenge finished with a one-over-par 73, leaving him four-over for the tournament. Steven Tiley, the highest placed Englishman a million years ago after round one, was on the same score for the tournament after carding a 74 today. Last year's PGA Championship winner, Korea's YE Yang was two-over today, three-over for the tournament.
