He was not able to pull any more birdies on the back nine and settled for the second position for the moment.
Campillo is also enjoying the support of the home crowd and will be hoping to bag the title on his home course.
He said, “I feel great playing this good. The course is playing tough and I managed to make no bogeys, so I’m very happy with the way I played today”.
Willet also shot into contention earlier in the day when he carded four birdies on the back nine.
Hoping to carry on with his blistering run to the top of the leaderboard, Willer started off the front nine dropping two shots on the opening holes.
He was able to card only two birdies on the front to make up for the loss.
Scotsman Gary Orr and Englishman Mathew Baldwin finished for the joint fifth trailing the leader by two strokes.
The event is currently pitched for a thorny competition over the weekend as the top-ranked players from the European Tour will attempt to rise to the top of the leaderboard in the proceeding days in the event.
Four players finished for a joint seventh including Englishmen Sam Hutsby and Graeme Storm, Scotsman Craig Lee, and Italian Francesco Molinari.
Molinari, who has played well through the start of the season, is hoping to land a title ahead of the major events on the calendar year.
He opened up his round with a birdie and carded another at the fifth. He dropped a shot at par-four, 8th before making the turn.
His back nine included two more birdies and a bogey at par-three, 11th.
Molinari said, “I’m very happy, it was as tough as it can get. The rough is just brutal, and the wind and rain make it hard to keep the ball on the fairway, but I played very well. This course should favour straight players like me, but when you show up
on the first tee you never know what’s going to happen”.
Molinari is adamant that he has a fair chance of winning the title over the weekend.
Born in Turin, Italy, Francesco is the elder brother of Edoardo Molinari.
