The last season’s finalist Philipp Kohlschreiber won his opening round match of the Open de Moselle tennis tournament after beating Thomas Fabbiano, a qualifier from Italy in a total of two sets on Tuesday. The final match score
was 6-4, 6-3.
Philipp is seeded number six to win the title this year in Metz. During his match yesterday, the professional tennis player from Germany, Philipp Kohlschreiber didn’t even face a single break point and managed to break Thomas in
a total of three occasions to end the hopes of the twenty one year old Italian of sealing his maiden tour victory.
In some other action on Tuesday, the eight seeded Gilles Simon from France triumphed in his clash in five attempts with an easy two setter victory over his Jamaican tennis foe, Dustin Brown at the indoor championship. The final
match score was 6-3, 6-4.
Gilles, who also participated in France’s 5-0 hammering of Argentina in the semi final clash of the Davis Cup tennis competition 2010, won a total of twenty three of twenty four points on his opening serve and converted a total
of two of his eleven break points.
 “It was a nice clash. I went through quite comfortably and felt extremely good and confident while playing my today’s match on the court. I am glad with the way I have performed and was able to judge his serve and break him early
in the clash which did the trick for me in the end. I had never previously triumphed in a main draw clash here in France therefore I am definitely happy and satisfied that I am through today,” said Gilles after the match on Tuesday.
Jarkko Nieminen from Finland as well as Xavier Malisse from Belgium also advanced with straight-sets victories in Metz.
Jarkko in his match managed to topple Benjamin Becker from Germany in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 7-6 (2). Xavier on the other hand thrashed out Edouard Roger-Vasselin, a qualifier from France in a two setter
clash. The final match score was 7-6 (3), 6-4.
Nieminen as a result of this victory will take on either Kristof Vliegen from Belgium or Federico Del Bonis, a tennis player from Argentina who substituted the injured Michael Llodra in the section.
According to the organizers Michael retired from the championship as a result of a calf injury during his Davis Cup duty for his side.
Also on Tuesday, Paul-Henri Mathieu got the better of Adrian Mannarino in an all French clash in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-3. Adrian started off the match in a destructive manner, losing the opening
five games, and then lost his first service game during the second set of the match in Metz.
Paul-Henri, who was a finalist two years ago, will meet his fourth seeded compatriot, Richard Gasquet next.
The last year’s winner Gael Monfils, will play his next match of the tournament against Mischa Zverev, a qualifier from Germany who ousted Horacio Zeballos of Argentina in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2.
The match concluded in a time period of fifty five minutes in Metz.
In some other action in Romania, Jeremy Chardy comfortably cruised into the second round of the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament on Tuesday, while two other seeded contenders Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Victor Hanescu both lost.
The eighth-seeded Jeremy dispatched off his opponent Guillaume Rufin from France within an hour on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-0, 6-2.
The Spanish Fifth seeded Gimeno-Traver on the other hand lost the lengthiest clash of the day at the hands of Carlos Berlocq from Argentina in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) whereas Hanescu was
dismissed by his Spanish tennis foe, Marcel Granollers in a three setter clash. The final match score was 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
