Open message when closed/disc wont spin

Question

pretty simple, i put in the disc, close the lid and i still receive the "open" message in the to left, sometimes with a disc logo, sometimes not. if i switch it from av2 back to dvd while its in, the disc will start to spin momentarily, before stopping and showing the open message again, PLEASE HELP ME im going on a road trip very soon.
