Open-minded Peyton Hillis agrees to play at any position for Kansas City Chiefs – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs’ running back, Peyton Hillis, who has joined the team a couple of months ago, has said that he is ready to take any role the coaches offer him and that he has an ‘open mind’.
While advising that other players should also have an open mind, Hillis said that he would try to give his best shot in whatever role he is assigned.
The Kansas City Star reported that Hillis has not been told about the role he will get in the next season, but the player is apparently satisfied with the present situation.
Hillis played college football as a fullback for the University of Arkansas. He made his National Football League (NFL) debut with Denver Broncos in 2008.
In his rookie season, he started six games while playing 12 and gained 343 rushing yards while scoring five touchdowns.
In his second season, he played more games but was not given the starting role more often. While playing 14 games, he started two and registered a total of 54 rushing yards and scored only one touchdown.
After his second season with the Broncos, Hillis was traded to the Cleveland Browns who gave him more playing time.
In his first season with Browns, he started 14 games while playing 16 and rushed for his career-best 1,177 yards while scoring 11 touchdowns.
Last year, he played 10 games and started nine of them. He registered a total of 587 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Following the season, he became a free agent and later joined the Chiefs in March this year.
He does not know his role with the Chiefs yet, but he is willing to accept any role. He said:
“I couldn’t really say. But I have an open mind and I’m willing to do whatever. You know, for the past seven years I’ve had seven different head coaches and seven different playbooks. So when it comes to something like that, especially a guy like me that’s
bounced around playing different positions throughout college and my professional career, really in your head and in your heart you really just can’t say, ‘Hey, this is what I’m going to do.’”
He added:
“You’ve got to have an open mind. That’s what I’m going to do.”
