Open-minded mother (only answer is you aren't rude and judgmental)?

Question

When I was younger (age 14)...I asked my mother if I could purchase a vibrator. She told me that I could order one online anytime I wanted. She said it was better than having s*x before I was ready and MUCH better than getting pregnant or catching an STD.

My mom and I can discuss ANYTHING. She's a very understanding and open-minded individual.

Do you believe that it was inappropriate for her to let me have a vibrator at this age? I don't think so. I'm currently 19 and still a virgin, so NO, it did NOT cause me to want the real thing.

I think you're very lucky to have a mother who you can talk to like this. However, a vibrator at 14 is probably not appropriate. You could have gone either way in this situation, I mean you could have become very promiscuous living in a house that is so open about s*x (however you could have become promiscuous in any environment!).

I think it's extremely important to be open with your parents about s*x and you're lucky to have this.

I don't see this as inappropriate at all. You wanted to explore your body in a new way, and your mom let you prepare for that. I don't see this as making you want s*x more. Why would you risk pregnancy and STDs when you can just handle it yourself? I wish my mom was that open about s*x with me.
