  1. Yes you can if you save the documents in Word or Excel format rather than the default OpenOffice format

  2. yes. *.doc for word.

  3. Yes you can so long as you save them as an office file.  When you go to save a document use the drop down list to pick the appropriate office file.

for example...if you are using Writer when you save it don't save it as an open office save it instead as a .doc word document.

  4. I haven't tried that but I know files created in Microsoft Office can be opened with Open Office (the opposite of what you want to do).

  5. Yes they can and vice versa.

  6. no they do not. Just go to Save as... in open office and save it as a microsoft word file (.doc)

  7. In OpenOffice.org 2.4.1

To save all your files in Microsoft format

    In OpenOffice

    • Click Tools

    • Click Options

    • Click Load/Save

    Select Microsoft Office

    • Check all the S boxes.

    • Click OK

    .

  8. Word Powerpoint and Excel work great for simple things - I haven't tested Open Office compatibility on complex files, but that's the intention.
