I am using Linux openSUSE live cd because i don't want to install it over windows just yet. But every time I start it up i need to redownload all my files and everything. There is still plenty of room left on the disk i'm using so is there any way i can keep the files on the disk or somehow the computer?

  1. The disk cannot be written (obviously) so you will need an external medium such as a USB thumbdrive or a networked computer to store the downloaded files.

The Live CD is designed not to touch your hard drive at all. But you should be able to mount your local hard drive (don't ask me how) and save things onto it.

  2. I can see three options.

    A) Create a dual boot partition and install Linux on that one

    B) mount your Windows drive from Linux and write stuff there, only for data not for changes.

    C) Use vmware and install Linux there.

I recommend C.. since then you can try out a number of linux dist until you a happy.

  3. try the following.

    1. partition your hdd  a)windows b) linux c)documents files

    2. maintain windows

    3. load ubuntu in one partition using wubi (wubi solve your installation headache)

  4. Hi, what do u mean when u say:

"But every time I start it up i need to redownload all my files and everything."

What files? On what OS? Which OS do u use currently?

    edit

first of don't use **** like ubuntu, it sucks

live cd's never keep installed software, its just a preview

vmware should have installed linux drivers for u or create a new connection using yast in vmware

u either portion your hard disk or u can use an external one
