Opening a bottle w/o a bottle opener?

Is there anyway a person can open a beer bottle or a glass Coca Cola bottle without a bottle opener?

yes! When I did not have a bottle opener in my dorm I just put the edge of the cap of the lid on the edge of the dresser or desk and then pried is open like that. you have to pull down at an angle for it to pop off.

well some people use their teeth but really it damages them...but usually on the can openers there is or seems to be a built in bottle openers on them...or some take the bottle cap close to the side of the counter tilt the bottle a bit and slam it down on the counter it can make a mess some times but has know to work.

I use to open them with my hand...some of them would tare skin but most of the time it wouldn't.

pliers work, also holding the cap bottom against a sturdy flat surface, then hitting the cap with the palm of your other hand. a bit messy i'll admit. orrrrr, you could try twisting the cap off.

Lots of good answers already, but there's one I'd add.

Look at any doorway, the metal piece in the jamb where the latch goes is pretty much a bottle opener built right into your wall.  Just be careful not to spill.

You can open a bottle of beer with a lighter. Use it like a lever. Hold the bottom end of the lighter against the cap tightly with your left hand. Then use you right hand to lever the lighter up to catch on the bottle cap. It's pretty easy after a little practice.

h**l YES!!! THIS IS MY QUESTION CAUSE I DO IT ALL THE TIME.  USE A BIC LIGHTER. IF YOU SMOKE OR DONT, CARRY A LIGHTER. I DONT SMOKE AND PEOPLE END UP NEEDING A LIGHTER IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. MULTI-USE.

In NZ the bottle is laid beside the counter, then smacked on top.

Wine without a corkscrew, screwdriver and a frying pan.

coca cola bottles all have s***w-tops.  even the glass ones.

Beer, you can open with a kife, coin, pliars, basically anything you can jab under the crimping, or wedge back-and-forth.

I have a friend that can use his teeth, but it makes me shiver everytime i see him do it.
