  1. Tell the jury/judge that you heard the opposition say they smell.


  2. Introduce yourself and your witnesses to the jury. Give them a brief summary of the evidence you will present. Tell them it is a civil case and tell them what your burden of proof is. Then ask them to return a verdict in your favor. This is your chance to introduce the jury to your case and to give them a "roadmap" for interpreting your case as sometimes witnesses can be difficult to follow (especially if they tell the story out of order).

    If you are doing this for a judge only, then keep it REALLY short and skip the burden and asking for a verdict part.
