Operating, tough to beat in May Evening Meetings INH Flat Race at Punchestown
After being unlucky in two consecutive races at the start of his career, Operating is all set to register his maiden success at Punchestown on Wednesday, May 9th.
The five-year-old novice is due to take part in the May Evening Meetings INH Flat Race, getting started at 20:20 GMT.
Operating made his debut in mid February this year. He stunned everyone with a wonderful act, securing the runner-up place in the Ronan Lawlor Memorial (Pro/Am) INH Flat Rac.
Mrs John Harrington’s trainee remained slightly unlucky, finishing only a couple of lengths behind the winner, Kilcrea.
The talented gelding could not sway things in his favour afterwards and as a result, missed the crown only by a nose in the Tipper Road (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Naas.
Despite the fact that luck was not on his side, one should not ignore his brilliant performance last time out. It is an ideal chance for the novice to come up with an extra effort and record the first win of his career.
Under Mr M Fahey, he will show his class against nine dangerous runners including Cross Avenue, Jennies Jewel, Soul Season, Gee Gee Robyn, Ballymonteen Wood, Hawkins Street, St Shabra and Theatretown.
Cross Avenue is also expected to show a fine performance. The four-year-old would not need to be high-class to get involved on debut.
Cross Avenue’s trainee, Anthony Mullins, is going through a bad patch these days. All of his runners let him down earlier this month. Cross Avenue has a fine chance to earn his trainer a delightful triumph.
Out of others, Soul Season seems to the strongest candidate. The six-year-old’s debut was a nightmare for his connections, as he fell down during the Nitrofert 6yo Geldings Maiden (Div 1) at Ballinaboola.
Despite a terrible tumble, the Thomas James-trained did not lose his determination. He delivered a winning performance in the Connolly's Red Mills 6yo Geldings Maiden (Div 2) in late February.
Operating is likely to break the shackles today. However, he cannot afford to relax, as there are many powerful contenders in the line-up. Cross Avenue and Soul Season are expected to give him a hard in the middle.
