I have a Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-K15). When I turn it on, I get an error that says ''SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: TOSHIBA MK6021GAS-(PM) Warning: Immediately back-up your data an replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. Press F1 to continue.'' When I press F1, it says ''Operating System Not Found'' Unfortunately my CD drive hasn't been working for a while, so I do not have access to any of the recovery disks. I tried to use the F10 function, but nothing happens, I also cannot access the menu by pressing F8. The only thing that I can access (that I know of) is the BIOS menu (F2). I would love to try to recover the data on my computer if possible, but if not, is there at least some way that I can do a system recovery? I looked through the BIOS and I was unable to find anything with SMART that I could disable. However, by trying different options in the BIOS I am able to get a different error message...I just have no idea what it means! By going through the Advanced Menu and into the Parallel Port Menu, I can disable the parallel port. Then when I restart I get the same SMART failure error, but after I press F1 I get a new message. ''For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.12 (010817). PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable, PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082). Does anyone know what this means, or if its better or worse? Again, the main problem is I DO NOT have access to my CD drive on the laptop. I do however have an external CD drive which I attempted to install, however at the end of the installation, when I had to restart, this happened. So I don't know if it is properly installed on the computer. Is there any way to access this external hardrive to run the recovery disks. I tried to attach it through the USB ports, but to no success. I don't have too much experience with these kind of computer problems....Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks!!
