How much would a company be fined for letting an employee operate a train without valid certification or training in Canada?

  1. Unlikely to ever happen, but on this side of the northern border locomotive engineers can be fined personally for certain actions, up to $20,000, but I don't think allowing an un-certified employee to operate the locomotive is in the mix.

    Keep in mind, an engineer in training lacks certification until training is complete and the person is promoted, but can only run the engine under the supervision of an FRA certified locomotive engineer.

    But. whether un-certified, de-certified or operating with current certification, if you're going to sit behind the throttle, then you are responsible for the outcome.  Unless he was following a company directive and only then under protest, he hasn't anything to stand on, unless someone put a gun to his head.

    Bottled air is a major no-no, whether running or leaving standing equipment.  Here again, it is the engineer's responsibility to see that rules are complied with ESPECIALLY where the air is concerned.  

    Better figure on taking the lumps...


  2. If there was an accident, the company would go bankrupt for the fines and possible civil suits that may arise.
