Opinion Poll all set to notch up the last year’s second position to a victory in the Gold Cup at Ascot
Wearing the royal blues in the Group 1 Gold Cup (British Champions Series) are Opinion Poll and Colour Vision. The evening’s favourite for the two miles and four furlongs race at the Ascot on Thursday, 21st June is, Fame And Glory. Contesting
for the £198,485 prize money is a line-up of nine four-year and older runners.
Switching saddles from Frankie Dettori to Mickael Barzalona is Opinion Poll, the brighter hope among the two Godolphin entries. Halling’s six-year-old bay horse out of mare, Ahead, has been active thrice during the season with two of them under his belt.
He broke into the new season with a second position in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy on 1st March at Meydan over a mile and six furlongs. The race was won by the 13/8 favourite of the race, Fox Hunt, who led by two and a half lengths with Frankie
Dettori onboard.
Wasting no more time, he won the Group 3 Dubai Gold Cup on 31st March at Meydan over two miles. The 10/11 favourite winner yanked away the title by a very slight margin of ¾ of a length. Finishing the closest was Joshua Tree while taking up the
third slot was Zanzamar.
Tossing a pair of wins the six-year-old bagged the Group 3 Betfair Henry II Stakes on 31st May at Sandown over two miles and half a furlong. The 5/4 favourite winner led the runner up, Ibicenco, by 2 ¾ lengths, with Frankie Dettori riding.
Catching up with the third position was Chiberta King.
Last year, the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained qualified as the runner up of the Group 1 Gold Cup. It was won by the 11/8 favourite of the race, Fame And Glory, who led the track of fifteen by three lengths.
Aidan O’Brien’s trainee is onboard for defending the title today and thus stands out to be the evening’s favourite.
Setting Opinion Poll as the runner up last year was Mickael Barzalona and today the two will make the most out of the chance and the partnership that they enjoy. Opinion Poll has raced before with quite a few on the card and there is hardly a chance that
the six-year-old will get intimated by them.
