I was given an art assignment on the topic "tubes"..

So, here is how my idea goes...

first, the drawing block is placed vertically upright...

then there are around like 3 tree branches of different sizes put around the drawing block..

then, there are roses blooming around the tree branches.

the roses are linked with vines..

this is about my overall idea..

I was thinking of having the tree branches black and white but im not sure about the roses..

please give ur comments on my idea and give suggestions on what colour schemes i can use.

feel free to give negative responses... but try to give opinions on how i can improve it...

thanks! :)

  1. Thanks for answering my other question.  I have not studied visual design before.

How old is your marker?  And does s/he prefer abstract or more natural thing because the black and white branches sound really abstract (unnatural) to me and it will require very good proportion, color and textural harmony to pull it off.  It's like the equivalent of a cow head + chicken body + horse legs.

I am asking how old because usually younger people can stand unnatural things better.  [just look at the way they dress]

If you are sticking with the B&W branches idea, I'd suggest a BW+grey or BW+sharp blue (not sky blue) to keep the design simple.  You may however add thin lines of gold thread as outlines to make it elegant [look more mature].

  2. Could you give a rough sketch of what it would look like? Then I would be really happy to give an opinion =]

  3. thank you for answering my question!

    and this sounds so cool!!!

i would definitely do the branches in black and white and use different shades of red for the roses =]

  4. really nice idea. roses are nice, but they're too common and don't really have a meaning other than love. i'm thinking make up your own flower, definitely go with the black and white branches, but add gray and for the flowers make them a really bright color that's out there. that would be a really nice art project. make it different in your own way

    hope i helped!!!!! :)

  5. very sweet. =] Make everything black and white, and make the roses BRIGHT red.

  6. I like your idea. You should have everything be black and white except for the flower on the roses, i would put that as the only color in the picture. I'm sure that'll look excellent!

And tks for the help with my question!

  7. "Modern Art" from the late 70's early 80's - I'll bet your art instructor remembers when tubes were one of the trendiest things back then. Watch a few Windows screen savers and speed them up and slow them down and play with that a bit. Something will pop into your head. Tube art is / was simple art that looked more complicated when all finished. McDonald's has a lot of tube type art in their McPlay-Places. What ruins most tube art I see, is the bright bold colors or candy cane stripes - Yuck! Go with quiet Earth tones or metallic colors with shiny clear coat.

  8. Thank you for answering my question!

I like your idea. I think something to improve it would be to make your branches different sort of shapes. Like, one could be kind of old and knotty, another could look perfectly cut, and the other could look very natural and flowy.

    Hope this helps. :]]

  9. If you really want to make an impact on your teacher, think of something more creative. Trees, roses, vines, bleeding hearts, black and white kinda stuff isn't very original. Of course you could argue that no art is original. I'm going to art college and they would attack you before you could even explain yourself if you did this. It's good that you're open to criticism though! That's great. Because I'm not trying to be mean at all! I'm just trying to help you from my experience. No one in high school will critique you that harshly if you did this though. HS crits are all fluff. Sit with a sketch pad in front of you and adapt your idea. Take something with tubes and modify it. Maybe morph two ideas together. Do something they won't expect.
