  1. Genetic engineering in Agriculture has the potential to do alot of good. But like all technologies it has it's dangers and limitations. I'm undecided about this area of scientificic research, it's a scientif and morally ambiguous area.

    - Genetically engineered food can be modified to include essential nutrients. For example vitamin A has been introduced into specially modified rice. The rice has the potential to cure blindness in many poor countries where people suffer from vitamin A deficiency.

    - Genetic engineering food also has the potential to increase crop yield and decrease losses. There for creating a economic advantage.

    - Some crops have also been developed with pest resistant genes inherent in their genetic make up. This could reduce or eliminate the need for dangerous pesticide use.

    - There is also the possibility of organ or tissue growth for organ transplant and injuries. This has the potential to save countless lives. though raises a number of moral issues.

    - Genetic engineering is a vast and complex field of studies. I've only listed a few example of possible benefits of genetic engineering. There are still many concerns about the safety, moral issues, and legal issues especially regarding the patenting and ownership of genetic information and monopolization of the market by large labs like Monsanto.

  2. it has helped more than most know....

  3. The funny thing is that we have been genetically modifying food since the hunter gathers first switch to farming.  So when you say entered into, I would say that we are already through the door and well into the next building.

  4. The most obvious reason is that gene manipulation creates the near-perfect result.Imagine a crop unaffected by insects,or virus,or anything that would spoil it's growth, and one that could be genetically made-over and over.Apply it to stock. Make the most meaty, appetising cattle, pigs etc.Gene manipulation means that even under the most harsh growing conditions, you end up with perfection.

  5. The potential is there for the greatness you speak of. It is only the tip of it we have seen so far.  It depends on what is done with the technology now that we have it as to how it will be judged inn the future.
