  1. I know a good number of people that are excellent at IT but largely self taught. To be honest IT skills are all about how much time you spend learning new things and practicing your knowledge. Some IT qualifications out there are laughable, whereas others might give you a grounding in programming but nothing else. So it wouldn't bother me if they were good at what they did.

  2. Unfortunately, most people with good IT qualifications will work in the IT industry not as an IT teacher.  To be honest you should be thankful that your teacher has a qualification in IT as most will not.

On the plus ide, IT is a fast moving industry therefore the GCSE's /AS levels aslo tend to change quickly.  So any qualification over 5 years old would be outdated in terms of technology.  Most IT teachers know this and ensure they remain fully upto date.

To conclude as long as your teacher is motivated by the subject and shows a willingness to learn (yes teachers learn as well) then there is no problem.

  3. Better qualifications required than that to teach at ANY level, I would have thought.

  4. To be a teacher you need a degree and a PGCE, no matter what subject you teach :-)
