I would really like to get one of these slings as I suffer with backache and have found the front carriers really painful, have heard that these slings are kinder on the back. I would really appreciate any of you sharing your experiences with them and which ones are the best to get. Thank you in advance.XX

  1. I only tried it with one of my kids and it didn't work for me.  I get pain in my shoulders and neck and the sling seemed to make it worse for me. However, most of the women I have talked to say that they love them.  I think as long as your pain is lower than mine you will probably be very successful.  Good luck, I 'm sure there are mom's here that can give you great advice with brands and styles etc.

  2. I personally think they looks silly anyway and kind of hippyish. Baby holders are alot cuter.

  3. They are wonderful when all your baby wants is to be held, but you need your hands and arms free. I had one for my baby and she loved it. For the first three months, it was the only way to get her to sleep!

They are kinder on the back, but only if you position them correctly, which is a common mistake. Too high or too low can hurt your back even worse.

I would suggest getting one and putting something that equals the weight of your baby in it. Keep adjusting it until it feels comfortable. When you find that, then you can put your little one in there.

Just make sure you get one that allows you to buckle the baby in. Wal-Mart sells a very nice, affordable, safe, and even fashionable one for around $28.00.

  4. I personally love mine. It helped my back and holds the baby close. Falling could be dangerous, but I loved my sling, I actually have two!!

  5. I've heard great things about the Ergo Baby Carriers.   They are a bit pricey, but they are supposed to be the best, and they have a 90 day money back guarantee. This site has lots of testemonials from parents who love their Ergo carriers, and a video here that shows how they are worn:

I personally love my baby sling.  I made one with this pattern:

It is custom made to my measurements, so it fits very comfortably.  However, I can't wear her for over an hour without feeling tired in my back, as she's getting to be a big girl now!

So, for a newborn, I'd try one of the slings, and for an older baby, the Ergo gives you a lot of options and is supposed to be very back-friendly :)  HTH!

  6. Now I know you can be a little nicer than that, huh? The idea of yahoo answers is to get other peoples opinions, no need to be rude.  To answer your question I got mine from slinglings.com

  8. I never found baby slings safe. What happens if you had an accident and fell down?

    I would never use one.

  9. I LOVE my baby sling, at first i was quite anxious about the safety of my daughter in it, ive found its really secure, for me i use it most when i have things to do in the house and shes wanting mummy cuddles!! she loves it... I have the freedom sling, the woman who makes them has lots of kids and used slings with all of them so i really trusted what she said, you can even call her if you cant pick a sling or have trouble figuring out how to wear it.. sorry im going on a bit.. about your back!! yes these help as they carry the weight evenly and doesnt strain anything, id strongly suggest you check out their site... you wont be sorry!!

  10. Moi, did you read the question?

They are alot easier on the back, but because my daughter was nosy from an early age she got bored! The ring slings are really good, and quite cheap, we tried the premax baby sling from mothercare as well but it's really tricky to get baby positioned comfortably in it, whereas in a ring sling it's easy.
