Question:

Opinions on being a 911 operator?

I know it would be an extremely stressful job and would be pretty difficult to hear people in those kinds of situations, but is anyone a 911 operator or does anyone know someone who is, and if so, do you like your job? I'm really interested but I want to get some opinions.

  1. I work for 911 in Ramsey County Minnesota, (Saint Paul, MN).

    Email me for any questions.

I will say this... THE JOB SUCKS... But, the pay is decent, the benefits are good. It's very hard to leave this job. You are not rich!!! But, they pay you just enough cash and benefits so you wont leave.

  2. The profession can be very rewarding, but it obviously can be very stressful.  The work schedule is probably one of the hardest things to get used to.  Can you work weekends, holidays, etc..?  If not, don't  even apply.

The pay completely depends on the agency you are interested in working for.  Alot of factors determine the pay scale.

I highly suggest you request to do a sit-a-long at the agency you are interested in, observe the work environment during one of their busier times and make sure this is something you CAN and WANT to do.
