Question:

Opinions on my photographs / website would be much appreciated

I have recently started building a website to put up some of my photos. I would class myself as an advanced beginner and have still much to learn. I would very much appreciate any comments about my photographs. Are there any you particularly liked or you felt were weak , especially in the 2 portfolio sections ?

Also, any comments on the general layout and design of the site would be very welcome too. I have tried to keep a simple clean layout.

Thanks

  1. That's really good, I would crop the sides a little because of the lights at either end are distracting.

A question about the site, it has Irish under the person, does that change with the country?

You should look at www.flickr.com I'm on it and some of the groups can really motivate you to take better pics

  2. You've got a good eye I'll give you that but I do think that some of your pics are a little weak (e.g. the fountains in South France someimes have too much going on in the background and which I find distracting to the eye)

I must admit that although I like alot of them (kudos on the lion pics (why not try these in high contract black an white) I wasn't really blown away by alot of them. Unfortunately your work is very similar to alot of the many photographers out there.

My advise is keep up the good work because like I said you have got a good eye for it but just dont be affraid to try something different. Take a a few risks try something a bit "out there" to grab attention.

  3. Ohh, I love your animal pictures especially the yellow bird and the lions and the cat.

But some of them just look like closeup's of animals, not really special or anything. Try taking a few pictures of animals (if that was your subject at the moment) at lots of different angles, then pick the best one that portrays (I think that's the right word) the animal and makes it look more wild or fierce or calm depending on the animal.

Hope you could understand that ;D.

  4. nice. What software do you use for writing your site?

  5. Photos are pretty much standard tourist stuff.  That's ok if you want to keep it general without trying to generate any sales or assignments from them, but if you want to get someone interested in your work, make it totally unique to you.

Your website has links that go nowhere.  The U2 link has nothing to do with the theme of the site.  When laying out a website, make the links stronger and offer more pictures in your portfolio.  Organize them by theme and then have pull down menus or a slide show to view them.

  6. exquisite photography! very professional and beautiful!!
