Opinions on room idea..Chair Railing?

Okay,

So if any of you have seen the 'True Life' episode

(I Have Embarrassing Parents),

I want my room to be like Niki's room..

If you haven't,

her room has a light blue color on the top part,

white chair railing in the middle,

and a brownish color on the bottom..

My question is..

Do you think that would look good?

Do you have any pictures that match my description?

I can't find any..

Also, around how much does chair railing cost?

Is it hard or easy to install, if I don't have it?

Thanks.!

  1. Haven't seen the show, but it sounds nice, I put a chair railing in my daughters room and it is pretty easy, you need to buy moulding to go around your room, measure all your wall widths and take them to the hardware store and choose the style you want (check out this link to give you an idea of the styles you can get...  http://www.australianmoulding.com/26.htm

anyway, once you have the moulding you just need to measure (twice!) and cut the moulding with mitred edges (that is a 45% angle that makes it look like the two pieces continue around a corner seamlessly) you can get mitre blocks for about $5 from a hardware store, and that ensures you get a good cut, but please test your cutting on a scrap 1st!!!

Anyway, the moulding isn't too expensive though it does depend on which style you pick, the more ornate, or fancy the more expensive, it cost me just over $40 to do my daughters room but it was a very small room. Also, you want to paint it BEFORE putting it onto the wall, SOOOOO much easier than doing it after it is on the wall.

You of course need to ensure that you get the chair rail level all the way around, measure and draw your line with a level in chalk or something that will wipe off easily.

Lastly, you can glue or nail it onto the wall, though test out first if you can nail through the moulding without splitting the wood, nails make removal very easy later on, but if your walls are a tad uneven, glue may be the way to go, just use as little as possible, using builders adhesive.

Thats it, sounds more complicated than it is, but I'd do it because it does sound like a really nice colour combo.
