I've been looking at getting a Buick Riviera or Regal GS with the 3.8L supercharged V6. Anyone have one of these in their car? I know they used them in the Pontiac GTP and maybe a few others. Known problems?

  1. The 3800 series has a fabulous reputation, so I bet it can take the extra abuse of a supercharger presuming its been reinforced a bit by GM for said performance application.

  2. I have read on forums that the superchargers do wear out just before 200K miles. And you will spend more money than the car is worth replacing it. So keep this in mind if buying a high mileage car. The 3.8 is a great engine though.

  3. They are suppose to be strong motors but if you are buying used get a mechanic to look at it. Most people that buy a supercharged engine drive it pretty hard and without proper maintenance you could have problems.
