I'm not pregnant, just love names.

First some combos:

Dahlia Isadora

Amelia Isadora

Zola Isobel

Serena Amelia

Mia Isobel

Athena Josephine

Scarlett Emilia

Annabel Lee (yes, like the poem by Poe)

Others in no particular order:

Amandine (George Sand's real name, pron. ah-mon-deen)

Zola (means "piece of earth", also taken from writer Emile Zola)

Aurélie (pron. oh-reh-lee)

Floria (from the opera Tosca)

Tosca (see above)

Artemisia (after the painter A. Gentileschi)

Scala (yes, not really a name, but I kind of like it)

Medea (she wasn't nice, but I like her name)

Miró (like the painter, pron. mee-roh)

Galatéa (the statue in Pygmalion)

Aurora

Anaïs

Zara

Zelda (Fitzgerald)

I also love the 30s and 40s (music and movies) and thus am always looking for some feminine classics, that sort of embody this era. If you know any beyond the movie star names, I'd appreciate it.

PS: I do not live in the US, so no need to lecture me about pronunciation issues.

  1. Out of all the names you have given the only one that stands out to me... is Dahlia... and think it's a beautiful name!

if i had to chose some more i would chose:

    Aurora

    Aurélie

    Scarlett

I hope this somewhat help narrowing done your choses

  2. I luv all of them... I like Aurélie

  3. Oh i love most of your names, some of them are on my fave list too:

    Emilia - love it!

Amelia - lovely but i prefer Emilia

Dahlia - lovely, unusual flower name

    Athena - quirky and strong

Aurelie - love it but prefer Aurelia

    Artemisia - nice :)

    Aurora - great name

    Anais - good name

Good luck, i love your names :)

  4. here are my favorites (in order of preference): zola (sounds very sweet and exotic for a girl--seems to me like a clearly researched and thoughtful choice from a learned individual--very unique). scarlett (sounds and looks simply beautiful, in my opinion), annabel lee (i'm a huge poe fan and love both of those names together) Amandine (adorable--for me, it's a constant reminder of the french word for almond, which i love to begin with) and tosca (unusual--has a lot of personality to it.)

least favorite names: Zelda (makes me think of the video game) Zara (just don't like how i sounds--like a female zorro. yet not as cool as it's made out to be) Artemisia (kind of sounds like a strange, exotic disease to me.) Scala (reminds me of reptiles and scabs) Anais (sounds like the french word for corn and is quite easy to distort and interpret in a childish manner, if you catch my drift).

the rest are okay, but they don't seem to have such a nice ring to them, and they look a little pretentious.

  5. My faves:

    I'll only write the 1st name to spped my typing up;

    Annabel, Scarlett, Athena, Amelia, Dahlia

    Others:

    Anais & Zara

I AM American so often I go towards the names I can connect with. And although we have reasons for the names we choose, they can affect our children. A great site I found was www.kabalarians.com - it's been dead-on for personality traits that correspond to a name.

If I'd known about it before my daughter was born I never would have named her Ashton. It was from a civil war movie, that of a beautiful southern belle. THEN Ashton Kutcher came along and everyone assumes she's a boy! Poor girl. ;)

  6. I liked Scarlett and Annabel Lee the most out of your list!  It reminded me of Scarlett J. the actress.

  7. my daughter's name is Zera, and my son's name is Zeth. I Love rare names.  Isadora is a lovely name!

  8. Annabel Lee !! so classy and girly but maybe you could spell it: Annabelle Leigh

  9. Scarlett Emilia

    Anaïs

    Aurélie

    Medea

classy and very chic. me love.

  10. I like Dahlia best.

The second list is very different, but if you like that kinda thing....

  11. they all sound like scientific names for flowers.....

    i like mckenzie and kaylee!

  12. A lot of those names are nice. I don't like Scala, to me it sounds too harsh.

  13. I don't really like any of them, sorry.

  14. Mia Isobel adds a nice flavor to anyone's name

  15. i like Mia Isobel i love the name mia!!!

  16. Aurelie is very pretty. And Zola is pretty cool too.

  17. Dahlia Isadora

  18. I love Dahlia Isadora, Annabelle Lee, and Scarlett Emilia. I also think Artemisia, Amandine, Zola, and Aurelie are gorgeous!! Such beautiful names, all of them.

  19. hmm... I like:

    Amelia Isadora

    Mia Isobel

    Scarlett Emilia

Annabel Lee (but I think it sounds more like a chinease)

    Oh, I know...

How about Anastasia, Alexia, Olga, Marie, Tatiana (Russian Royal Family)

  20. Serena Amelia

    Dahlia Isadora

    Anaïs

    Aurélie

    Scala

youre very creative...i like all of these names, but the above are my favorites

    :]

  21. I speak french and i especially like Aurelie. You just have to think that not everyone will know how to pronounce it. I have a friend named Lea (lay ah) and it is a french name and she gets so many variated weird pronunciations. All of those names are great. Good luck!

  22. I think having fun with middle names, in terms of cultural or in your case, interest in 30's and 40's is fine, but to give the child an odd first name, it just makes life harder on the child. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't and the kid is stuck with the name for life. You don't have to go with the normal, boring, 1 in a million names, but I wouldn't name the child something way out there.

  23. i really like names too haha! ok, I like Scarlett Emilia a lot! and i also really like Annabel Lee, but I love poetry haha, but yeah! oh, and i really love the zelda (because of the fitzgerald haha).

  24. I love Serena and Scarlett, very pretty names, Serena Scarlett sounds good together too! I wanted to name my daughter Scarlett but my hubby didnt like it!

  25. I love Zola Isobel - actually, I'd like Zelda Isobel best.

Dahlia Isadora is nice, too, but I'm a sucker for a Z name.
