  1. I am not sure what you want this horse for...trail, show or what..and I don't want you to take my suggestion as an insult..but look up Adams Horse and Mules...that will give you a good idea of what a good Walker looks like when they are moving out for trail..These horses are high priced..I would hate to go any higher than $3500 but that is just me.

You can also look up Horseville...lots of horses for sale there, you might find something you are looking for.  I hope this helps you I am not trying to discourage you, just trying to give you some more ideas on what horses are out there.

  2. These pictures don't show the horse's conformation very well at all.

Personally, I don't care what the pedigree is, I only care about how the horse gaits, how he is built (his conformation) and how he acts.  I tend to gravitate towards gaited horses who have shorter backs, crooked back legs that are jacked up more than the front legs and have more compact bodies.

The best thing to do is to ask for pictures of the horse without a rider taken from different angles, but especially taken from the side.  This will give you a clearer picture of his conformation.

The next best thing is to go ride the horse several times at different times of the day.  Observe how well he is caught up or if the seller always has him ready for you (which COULD indicate a hard to catch or saddle horse).

At 7 years old, I wouldn't pay $2400 for a registered Walking horse.  I might give $2000 if he rides well and behaves well.

I have worked with gaited horses for nearly 20 years and have owned them for about 13 years.  I have seen it all!

  3. 2400 hundred is a little high - If you are not familiar with the breed then i would keep looking - is it a smooth ride - does he stay in his gait?  Check out walkersforsale.com you can look by state - i had very good luck with this site but you also have to know what your looking at.

  4. he looks like a classsy TW i don't know much about them either..but he looks nice =)

it is kinda annoying when you ask a question for help and then all anyone is ever intrested in is WHY you asked the questions and don't bother helping answer

i'm sorry i wasn't much help good luck on finding your perfect TW! my neighbor has 2 TW's one is about 20, the other is like 32 they are very genlte and beautiful breeds

  5. What I think would be related to what you tell me you want to use him for.  I'm not sure about his legs...they might have some problems, but it could be the way he is standing...can you get pictures stood up properly without tack? If I were you, I'd request that before I put any time and effort into pursueing it anyway.

  6. what are you asking? are you asking if we think you should buy him?

if you're asking that, depends on a lot more than height, his dad, and his price

  7. He doesn't look 16hh to me but that man might just be big. If he is 16hh then $2400 is quite cheap, although 13yo means he's probably past his best.

  8. Well to be honest, I would keep looking if I were you.

First off, he is common....nothing special about him to look at.

If you are looking for a using horse, again, I have to say keep looking. I don't like his legs. His fetlock joints are not tight and I would be concerned with his pastern angles, but honestly it is hard to see much with these photos. 13 is a great age for a well broke trail horse,  for a first horse or for a packer.

It really depends on what you want to do with him....but this one I would pass by....Sorry.

  9. He's really cute!

I find it very strange that you can buy a horse on craigslist.

  10. I just bought a 10 year old double registered TWH/SSH gelding. He is 16.2 hh and he is absolutely wonderful. He is the best horse I've ever owned.  I paid 2000$ for him and he's double registered. You might want to bargain him down a little on that price. Most people are going to list a horse for a little more b/c they expect to bargain with the purchaser. He looks like a beautiful horse!

    Good luck.

  11. A very nice looking Walker! A pretty color on them, I think. He seems to have good conformation, and he doesn't look to spirited for a good fun ride! For thirteen he looks much younger, so he must have been well-loved. See if you can try him out for a week before buying- that really helps in some situations.

I know that most people just fall in love with a horse, believe me, I have been there. :) But try to think unbiased, as if you were, say your mom. Think outside the box and look at the horse from all angles. You might feel compelled to buy the horse, even if you don't really REALLY love him. But don't say you will think about it, then later tell them he is not right for you. Buying a horse can be emotional and stressful, so stick to it!

Tennessee Walkers are generally a sweet and gentle-natured breed, so they are a great choice! They also work well with children and beginners, so if you are going to have any of those around this may be the horse for you.

Good luck with your horse, whoever it ends up being!

  12. Go for it, but I would go see him first. Ask questions!!!! Ask:

    -Name

-Age (Even though you already know)

-If you can get a lower price

-If anything will come with him (Saddles, bridles)

    -What he can do(Western? English?)

-Has he been in any shows?

And anything else you can think of

    Hope I helped!
