the chicken came first.  the mutations that lead to changes in DNA take place in the adult which then procreates, passing along the altered DNA ot its offspring.

Hmmm, this is my personal take on the question... I think that the egg came first. An animal that was not quite a chicken laid the egg and the final touches of evolution took place inside of that egg which made it a chicken by today's standards!

this is the third time I answer this type of question in 2 days...*sigh*

If this is a birthday party and the clown ask you 'what came first, the chicken or the egg?' the answer is the chicken.

if he asked 'what came first, the egg or the chicken?' the answer is the egg.

(You know WHY, right ? it's literally what comes first thingy...)

if you are answering a bible debate, it's chicken. Because God created animals, not eggs of animals.

if you are answering a bio test, it's egg. Because it's probably about evolution or mutation that when a strange species mate in the past, they produce an offspring that we called chicken nowdays. And where does the chicken come from ? the egg.

So it's depending on WHO ask it...

it think that's a silly question and i enjoy answering it during my friend's birthday party when I was small.
