im totally against the use of animals in the circus, i will not go to a circus that involves them and if i ever have children they will not be allowed to go to them.

I'm Irish & 35. I certainly went many times to the circus as a child & saw animals performing. We considered this normal & never really thought about their conditions.

Now as an adult i would not see animals performing in a circus as acceptable. Something like the Cirque du Soleil is a much better idea & i wouldn't hesitate to go to something like that. This emphasizes the use of humans as performers & does not make use of animals.

I'm British, female and 42. I don't know of anybody at all whom I have ever met in my entire life who thinks animals in circus's (?) are O.K.

you know, I never really thought about what happens in a circus environment, but I Imagine that not all circus's are cruel to their animals, and not all are kind to them either..but why would you mistreat an animal that you rely on to keep your business going? I don't see why the animals should be mistreated...but I could be just naive. I read the story about that young child here that was attacked by a circus dog and the authorities wanted to destroy the dog, but there was an outcry for compassion from the Irish public, because the dog and  an elephant in the circus were very close and the elephant was pining for the dog  when it was taken away...I think the dog was given a stay of execution, because to be  honest, the child could have been teasing or been aggressive to the dog and you can't blame an animal for acting like an animal. and I have also seen the aftermath of when an elephant goes into musk when it is in a circus, they usually just shoot the elephant if it gets too out of hand or looks like it's gonna go on a rampage..( have seen this a few times on tv) I do think that circus animals are the biggest attraction to a circus and if they were mistreated, then the circus should be shut down and heavy fines imposed..they souns like they may need a dedicated animal welfare officer to continuously be checking up on them anyway.

I have to say, that I admire the work you guys do in the ISPCA and DSPCA , it must be horrible sometimes, especially seeing so many lurchers and greyhounds being mutilated by their owners who don't win enough money off them, keep up the good work, you work in one of the most noble of professions

for elephants and big cats it is awful, Horses are maybe no worse off than anywhere else.
