Opponent Preview: Detroit Lions face Chicago Bears in Week 7, Seattle Seahawks in Week 8
These two weeks are hugely important for the Detroit Lions as results in week 7 and 8 will dictate their position in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division as well as their prospects for the playoffs.
Starting off with a big fixture against fierce rivals, Chicago Bears in week 7 at Soldier Field the Lions will return back to Ford Field to face the Seahawks.
Week 7: Chicago Bears
The atmosphere will be electric when the upstart Detroit Lions arrive at Soldier Field to take on Chicago Bears in a crucial fixture.
Chicago this year, have made great improvements to their offensive roster with the arrival of three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, Brandon Marshall as well as running back, Michael Bush.
Last season the Bears ended up with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs as injuries took their toll on the roster.
The Lions replaced Chicago in the playoffs and the Bears will be itching to put Detroit in their place with a win at Soldier Field.
With two of the best quarterbacks in the division facing off against each other this will be a contest that will appeal to every football fan regardless of their association.
Head-to-Head
The Bears and Lions have faced each other 164 times in the NFL with Chicago winning the bulk of the games.
Chicago has won 94 times with Detroit winning 65 and five games ending up tied.
Week 8: Seattle Seahawks
Last season the Seahawks made a late push for the playoff spots as they underwent a purple patch in the second half of the season.
However, defeats in the final two games of the season ended their late surge and left the Seahawks with a 7-9 record.
This year the team is likely to undergo change and the arrival of quarterback, Matt Flynn from the Green Bay Packers will provide some tough competition to 2011 starter, Tarvaris Jackson.
The Lions will face a tough test against the Seahawks but home field advantage and the support of the crowd will likely see them off to victory.
Head-to-Head
Seattle and Detroit have rarely come face-to-face against each other in the NFL and their meeting in the next season will be just the 12th game between the two sides.
The Lions have won just 4 of their previous 11 games against Seattle with the Seahawks emerging victorious in 7.
