Opponent Preview: Green Bay Packers face Detroit Lions in Week 11, New York Giants in Week 12
The Green Bay Packers will need to take full advantage of the time off provided by a bye-week in week 10 as they face two of the toughest games of the season in the following two weeks.
Green Bay will face two back-to-back away games against two of their biggest rivals.
Starting off in week 11 the Packers will travel to Ford Field to face divisional rivals Detroit Lions which will not be an easy game by any measure.
Following that the Packers will have a chance to avenge last season’s playoff divisional round defeat at Lambeau Field, when they face the New York Giants at the MetLife Stadium.
These games will start a tricky run of fixtures for Green Bay and they will face some tough questions in the run-in to the playoffs.
Week 11: Detroit Lions
Just recently this fixture was more or less always an easy game for the Green Bay Packers as Detroit Lions had been horrendously poor.
The Lions just a few years ago went the entire regular season without a victory and were perennial punching bags for better sides.
However, since the arrival in 2009 of head coach, Jim Schwartz, Detroit Lions have turned things around significantly.
Last year the team put up some brilliant performances to end up with a 10-6 regular season record and qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
Led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson, the Lions have developed a pass heavy yet devastating offence while on defence the team has improved significantly thanks to defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and other defensive stalwarts.
This will be a mouth watering clash between the two divisional rivals and will put up some great matchups between players.
Head-to-Head
Both sides have faced each other 165 times. The Packers have won 93 of those games while Detroit Lions have won 65 with seven games ending up tied.
Week 12: New York Giants
This will be another tough fixture for the Green Bay Packers when they face the defending Super Bowl Champions at their home field.
The New York Giants were the surprise winners of the Super Bowl last year and they proved deserving winners after going through the likes of the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots to lift the Lombardi Trophy.
A strong team with a dominant defence and an offence led by quarterback Eli Manning who continues to prove doubters wrong makes the Giants one of the toughest teams in the National Football Conference (NFC).
The Packers will be looking to avenge their divisional round defeat but they will have to perform exceptionally well to reach that goal
Head-to-Head
57 games have taken place between the two sides.
Green Bay Packers lead the way in wins with 31 while the Giants have won 24 times. Two games ended up tied.
