Opponent Preview: Green Bay Packers face San Francisco 49ers in Week 1
The Green Bay Packers entered the 2011 regular season as the Super Bowl Champions after lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
This year they will enter the 2012 regular season as a strong side which dominated the regular season but could not carry that same performance into the postseason.
The Packers ended up with a brilliant 15-1 regular season record in 2011 and only just missed out on going the entire regular season unbeaten after a week 14 defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, their postseason ended on a bad note.
Green Bay Packers were at home at the iconic Lambeau Field stadium and the favourites to win their divisional round encounter against the New York Giants.
The franchise though was completely outplayed in the playoffs by the Giants who ended up winning with a 37-20 score.
Green Bay Packers will be looking to once again challenge for the playoffs this year and reach the Super Bowl to move on from last season’s disappointing end.
Like each year they will be favourites to once again challenge for the Super Bowl and boast one of the strongest rosters in the National Football League (NFL).
With Most Valuable Player (MVP) and quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading the offence the franchise will once again provide a tough challenge to all their opponents.
Week 1: San Francisco 49ers
The Packers begin their 2012 regular season campaign on September 9th at the Lambeau Field.
They will face one of the most improved franchises of the NFL in the San Francisco 49ers and this game will be a mouth watering clash among two of the best team’s of last season.
Like Green Bay, the 49ers were virtually unstoppable in the 2011 regular season and won game after game to end up with a 13-3 regular season record.
Under head coach Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco were vastly improved from their previous incarnations and boasted one of the best defences in the league.
This year the Harbaugh will be coaching his second NFL season and the 49ers are expected to become even better in 2012 and are favourites to at least reach the playoff stage.
Green Bay will have a tough time against the 49ers and their strong defence will provide a great challenge to the Packers awesome offence.
Head-to-Head
Both teams have faced each other 61 times in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers lead the 49ers in wins with 34 victories while San Francisco have won 26 times with one game ending in a tie.
