Opponent Preview: New York Giants face Carolina Panthers in Week 3, Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4
After playing the first two games of the season on their home field, the New York Giants are scheduled to play the next two away from home.
We have already discussed the first two games and now let’s take a look at the next two.
Week 3: Carolina Panthers
Although Carolina Panthers do not pose a very serious threat to the Giants, the presence of quarterback Cam Newton, who had a record-breaking rookie season last year, is more than enough for Giants to avoid complacency.
Last year, Newton lifted the team to finish at 6-10 after the team had ended the 2010 season on a miserable note, winning only two games.
With Newton leading the offence, it is expected that the Panthers might register even more victories this time.
In presence of New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons who played the playoffs after qualifying from the National Football Conference (NFC) South division last season, Panthers are still eyeing the top spot in the division for the 2012 season.
Even if they do not make it to the postseason their spirits are high and the Giants must defend well to prevent Panthers from progressing.
Head-to-head
Giants and Panthers have played seven games against each other and the former has won three of them. Giants and Panthers are going to play one game in the 2012 season.
Week 4: Philadelphia Eagles
Another exciting encounter in on the cards as the Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles, who are evidently the strongest threat to the defending champions in the upcoming season.
Eagles were rated as Super Bowl contenders last year and despite not being able to qualify even for the playoffs last time, Eagles are once again deemed a threatening unit and a contender for the National Football Conference (NFC) East division in which
Giants and Dallas Cowboys are also present.
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is in high spirits, the team has developed good chemistry through the offseason workout and the defensive line has received stability after the addition of linebacker DeMeco Ryans and such other players.
Giants have to be equally strong on defence and offence to give Eagles a tough time or else the latter might outscore the former.
Head-to-head
Giants and Eagles have played against each other 160 times. Giants have 83 victories to their name while Eagles have won 75 games. Two games were tied. The Giants are going to play only one game against the Eagles in the 2012 season.
