Opponent Preview: New York Giants face Cleveland Browns in Week 5, San Francisco 49ers in Week 6
The first four games are expected to determine the strategy New York Giants will adopt in the 2012 season. Playing against four different teams with four different schemes is certainly going to be a tough test, but there is still more to come for the defending
champions.
Week 5: Cleveland Browns
In terms of overall record, Cleveland Browns certainly carry an edge over New York Giants as the former has won more games, but the recent record suggests that Giants are far better than the Browns.
Browns are already in a difficult situation as their quarterback dilemma is yet to be resolved. If they do not solve it now, they might carry the negative energy into the season and then they are going to face some serious challenges not only from the Giants
but from the entire league.
As for Giants, they must utilise their offensive strength to overpower Browns.
Head-to-head
Giants have faced Browns in a total of 49 games. Two games were tied while Browns won 27. Giants secured 20 victories. Both teams are going to play only one game in the 2012 season.
Week 6: San Francisco 49ers
Some critics still say that the San Francisco 49ers are overrated, but for Giants that is not going to be the case.
After all, two players, Mario Manningham and Brandon Jacobs, who were part of Giants Super Bowl winning squad last season, have now joined the 49ers.
Also, Giants were the ones to end 49ers’ incredible run last year after beating them in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game.
49ers reached the playoffs last year after ending a long drought and they are once again hoping to do the same.
49ers are hoping to avenge their last season’s loss against Giants and they are capable of doing so because of many reasons.
First is the 49ers defence that led them to many victories last year. The other important aspect to note is that 49ers have added quite a few players this year to their squad in order to strengthen the offence that was relatively weaker last season.
So 49ers are going to come hard and if Giants provide any loophole, 49ers will not hesitate to capitalise.
Head-to-head
Giants and 49ers have faced each other 36 times and both teams have won 18 games each. They are going to play only one game in the 2012 season in what is expected to be one of the most thrilling encounters of the season.
