Opponent Preview: New York Jets face Tennessee Titans in Week 15, San Diego Chargers in Week 16 and Buffalo Bills in Week 17
The last three weeks in the 2011-12 season did not at all go the way of the New York Jets as the franchise contrived to lose all three games in a row and miss out of the playoffs.
During those games rumours of infighting among the Jets offensive players surfaced while the last game of the season against Miami Dolphins saw a public bust-up between quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes while Holmes also had a spat
with then offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Holmes was benched for that game while the Jets went on to lose 19-17 ending their chances for a shot at the playoffs.
This year the franchise will be looking to end the season in a completely different manner but their task won’t be easy as they face three tough sides in games that once again could decide whether the Jets go into the playoffs.
Let’s preview how these exciting encounters could shape out.
Week 15: Tennessee Titans
This will be a tough encounter to predict as both sides are more or less similar in that they can beat any team in the National Football League (NFL) on their day.
The Titans ended last year with a 9-7 record and missed out on the playoffs but they are not a team that should be taken lightly.
Boasting a talented offensive roster with two quarterbacks who have proved their mettle in the NFL the Titans are sure to be a tough nut to crack for the New York Jets.
Both teams boast a strong offensive roster as well as a defensive roster that can withstand significant pressure which will ensure an exciting encounter.
Head-to-Head
Both teams have faced each other 40 times with 17 wins going to the New York Jets while 22 were wrapped up by the Titans.
One game ended in a draw.
Week 16: San Diego Chargers
The Chargers like the Jets ended up with an 8-8 regular season record last year and both teams will be looking to push back once again into the playoffs.
This game might just decide which team goes through to the playoffs come the end of the season.
With an offence led by 2012 Pro-Bowler and quarterback Philip Rivers the Chargers boast a strong squad which has further improved this offseason with some astute picks in the draft.
The Chargers will be a big test for the Jets and with the stakes raised high at the end of the season, the team which will handle the pressure the best will run out the winner in this important fixture.
Head-to-Head
Both teams have faced each other 34 times with the Jets winning 14 games while the Chargers have won 19 with one game ending up as a draw.
Week 17: Buffalo Bills
We have covered this fixture in detail in the first week of this series although the pressure on both sides in this fixture will be much more than the pressure they would feel at the start of the season.
