Opponent Preview: San Diego Chargers face Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs
We continue our preview of opponents San Diego Chargers will face in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season. Here we will preview games scheduled for week 3 and 4 of the regular season.
Right now, training camp is just a few weeks away. So the season is inching closer and closer.
With most of the roster moves completed, now is the time for teams to practice their strategies for the upcoming season.
In week 3 and 4, Chargers will face Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs respectively.
Week 3: Atlanta Falcons
It seems that Atlanta Falcons will face a tough season this time around. Last time, they finished their regular season on a high with 10-6. They qualified for the playoffs but failed miserably to show good performance.
Both Chargers and Falcons play good attacking game. So the game looks to be a high-scoring one.
Yet Chargers do have a clear advantage over Falcons’ defence. Lack of consistency from the Chargers was one of the reasons of their average performance last season. Going into the third week, they must show consistent performance.
Last contest between the two sides took place in the 2008 season. That game was won by Falcons 22-16. Chargers have only managed to beat Falcons once in their history. This might be the opportunity for them to take back some pride.
Head-to-Head
Chargers and Falcons have only played eight matches against each other. Falcons are clearly on top with seven wins against just one by Chargers.
Week 4: Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs are looking upbeat about the upcoming season. This season could be a major step forward for them after strengthening the roster with good players.
With the addition of players like Dontari Poe, Chiefs’ defence has progressed to the next level. So, it will be difficult for Chargers’ offence to accelerate.
Chargers do have an upper hand when it comes to having a quality quarterback as Philip Rivers is considered one of the best in the league.
On the other hand, Chiefs’ Matt Cassel had a disappointing last season.
The quarterback performance could be the deciding factor in this game. Chargers and Chiefs will play two games against each other in this regular season. The other game will be played in week 9.
Head-to-Head
Both teams have played 104 games against each other. Chargers have won 51 games while Chiefs have won 52. One game ended up in a tie.
