Opponent Preview: San Diego Chargers faces Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets
We are giving back-to-back previews everyday and now we will preview the final end of the regular season of San Diego chargers.
In this version, we will preview game week 14, 15 and 16 of the season. Chargers will play Oakland Raiders in week 17.
In the last few weeks of the season, fatigue plays a major role in any team’s performance. The one who is most physically fit is the one that will give better output.
Week 14: Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that have immense experience on their roster. They had very good 2011 regular season, finishing 12-4.
Having experienced players is a good option but one must consider that experience comes with old age. This in turn means lack of athleticism.
This is especially true for Steelers whose defensive line is very old and can be sluggish at times. On the other hand, they have signed good young players for their offensive team.
Chargers have a good chance in this game if they capitalise on the sloppiness (if there is any) of the Steelers defence.
Head-to-Head
The two teams have faced each other 30 times. Steelers have won a massive 22 times while Chargers have won just eight.
Week 15: Carolina Panthers
Panthers have been through a forgettable last season. They finished 6-10. The only thing that came out well for them was their quarterback Cam Newton.
Apart from Newton, the rest of the team, especially defence, lacks the talent to win games consistently.
Teams like Chargers must penetrate the Panthers’ defence so that they win comprehensively. The last time the two sides met each other was in the 2008 season. It was a thrilling match with Panthers winning 26-24.
Head-to-Head
The two sides have played only four games against each other. Panthers have won three of them while Chargers have won only once.
Week 16: New York Jets
It looks to be another disappointing season for the Jets. There has been more buzz about them off the field rather than on it.
Chargers defence must stop Jets in their own back yard while their offence needs to put more pressure on the running back position that might become Achilles’ heel for Jets.
Head-to-Head
Chargers and Jets have played against each other 34 times. Chargers have won 19 games and Jets have won 14. One game ended in a tie.
