Opponent Preview Week 1 & 2: Oakland Raiders faces San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins
This is a new series of opponent reviews and this time we will preview all the games to be played by Oakland Raiders in the 2012 season.
In this edition, we will preview games to be played in week 1 and 2.
Raiders have a full offseason this time to train themselves with their quarterback Carson Palmer. He had a poor last season. Now he must provide good results to justify his worth.
Raiders’ power house in the defence is Darren McFadden, but they cannot depend only on McFadden, as his injuries generally prevent him from playing the entire season.
Week 1: San Diego Chargers
San Diego Chargers are coming up this season with strong offensive team. The team now has two dynamic wide receivers. This gives quarterback Philip Rivers some options to go with. Raiders will face some tough competition from Chargers
offence.
With an improved team this season, things are looking promising for the Raiders. Both the teams finished their last season 8-8 and are looking to improve this season.
The last time these two teams confronted each other was in the last season. The match ended with Chargers win 36-26.
As a starting match of the season for both of them, this game is very important. These two sides will play two matches against each other in the 2012 season.
Head-to-Head
Out of 105 games they have played against each other, Chargers have won 45 while Raiders have 58 victories under their belt. Two games ended in a tie. The two have played each other only once in the playoffs.
Week 2: Miami Dolphins
After crawling through a miserable 6-10 season, Miami Dolphins are hoping to progress this time around.
Dolphins have a new 4-3 system in place for defence. Adjusting to the new system would take time and it might backfire.
Dolphins’ offence is facing some problems at the quarterback position. All of their quarterbacks are not capable enough to give good performances throughout the season.
In this game, Raiders will look to pressurise Dolphins’ quarterback and take him down. This game could end up being a damage control exercise for Dolphins.
Last time Raiders and Dolphins played each other was on December 04, 2011. Dolphins won that match 34-14.
Head-to-Head
Dolphins and Raiders have played 35 games against each other. Raiders have won 19 of them while Dolphins have won 15. One game ended in a tie.
