Opponent Preview Week 12 and 13: Kansas City Chiefs face Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers
We continue our series of 2012 season preview for Kansas City Chiefs.
In this version, we will preview the games to be held in week 12 and 13. Around that time, the season will be getting closer and closer towards the finale.
During these weeks, Chiefs will face relatively easy opponents. Yet one cannot predict which team will be most hurt by the injuries and what quality of game they will show after that.
Week 12: Denver Broncos
After grabbing veteran quarterback Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos are looking to have a change of fortune. Last season, they finished 8-8.
Chiefs, on the other hand, will be looking for opportunities against the rusty quarterback who will be playing professionally after a gap of more than a season.
Having an elite player like Manning will certainly be helpful for Broncos who have good young talent on the roster, but his own fitness will be one of the concerns.
If Chiefs’ defence can hold Manning, they will have more than just a chance to win the game. Also, the Broncos’ young and inexperienced defence could be porous, thus giving chance to Chiefs’ offence to charge forward without much difficulty.
The last time these two sides played against each other was in January this year. It was a low-scoring game with Chiefs winning 7-3.
Head-to-Head
Broncos and Chiefs have faced each other 104 times. Chiefs have won 56 times while Broncos have won 48 games. These teams have faced each other only once in the playoffs.
Week 13: Carolina Panthers
Carolina panthers had a disastrous 2011 season, finishing 6-10. Yet this season could be way different than the last one.
Panthers have three top-notch running backs in their team which can prove to be vital for a successful campaign this season.
Chiefs could face difficulty in coping up with those running backs.
On the other hand, Panthers’ defensive performance last season was considered as one of the worst in the entire league. Yet, one cannot ignore Coach Ron Rivera’s reputation of making up good defensive teams.
Chief’s offence will be the one that can win this game. Last time, these two teams met each other was in 2008 season. It was a one-sided game with Panthers winning 34-0.
Head-to-Head
The two teams have only played four games against each other and both have won two games each.
