Opponent Preview Week: Minnesota Vikings face Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts
Today we begin our new series of opponent previews. This time we will preview all the games to be played by Minnesota Vikings in this 2012 season.
We will analyse all the teams that Vikings will face during the regular season. Vikings are coming from a season which was average to say the least.
They are going through a rebuilding process for the last two seasons, but it has seriously affected their performance on the field.
Although their defence does look promising with the addition of defensive end Jared Allen and rookie defensive back Harrison Smith, Vikings does not have the roster depth required to consistently get the results in their favour.
Week 1: Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars are looking a lot different from the 2011 season. Last season, they ended 5-11. They have failed to reach the playoffs for the last two seasons.
Jaguars’ administrative side has completely changed with the arrival of new owner Shahid Khan.
They have a new coach Mike Mularkey. Although he has a good reputation, he has a lot of work to do if he wants Jaguars to have a promising season.
He did get some good news this offseason, with defensive coordinator Mel Tucker staying with the team.
Jaguars’ defence does not look capable enough to perform consistently and their offensive output depends on how their quarterback Blaine Gabbert performs.
Jaguars’ offence will face a tough time against Vikings strong defensive team.
Head-to-Head
These two opponents have played just four games against each other. Vikings have won three times while Jaguars have won only once.
Week 2: Indianapolis Colts
Last season, Indianapolis Colts were without their elite quarterback Peyton Manning. They finished the season2-14.
This time around, Colts will enter the field with a completely new line-up. After releasing Manning, they have drafted quarterback Andrew Luck as the first overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Luck is coming with a good reputation from his college years. Colts will be looking for a turn of luck with the addition of Luck.
Colts’ offence is looking balanced with the addition of two tight ends from the draft.
As for the defence, it will be the major cause of concern for Colts as they have not strengthened it with good players. Their season can go either way, but they have a better chance for victory in this game.
Head-to-Head
The two opponents have played 23 games against each other. Colts have won 15 of those games while Vikings have won 7 games. One game ended in a draw.
