Opportunity for New York Yankees to reconsider their strategies – MLB Update
For the second straight year, rain has interrupted a Detroit Tigers-New York Yankees playoff game and Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia has been the most affected by it.
Yankees are trailing 0-3 in the best of seven match American League Championship Series. They will be looking to reconsider their strategies. First of all, Manager Joe Girardi will be looking to decide if it is good idea to put Alex Rodriguez on the bench
for Game 4 of the ALCS.
Rodriguez is arguably the best hitter in Yankees’ batting line-up and it is hard to see the Yankees scoring runs against Detroits’ pitching rotation without their star batter.
"I think it was an obvious decision based on what the radar was," Yankees’ GM Brain Cashman said. "Unfortunately, the radar showed it broke up right before it got to us. The heavy stuff wasn't going to break up. So it was going to be an unplayable situation.
It is just not easy decision with dealing with weather."
"I think they made the right call," Yankees’ catcher Russell Martin said. "This is playoff baseball. You don't want your top guys going out there and throwing, like, two or three innings."
Game 4 on Wednesday night was delayed due to anticipated rain storms in Detroit, Michigan. After 90 minutes, the match officials called off the game. According to the announcement, the match was postponed “to preserve integrity of an uninterrupted contest.”
Max Scherzer will be starting Game 4 for the Tigers on Thursday evening. Scherzer has looked in terrific touch throughout this season. Surely, he will be looking to continue his impressive winning streak to finish off the Yankees.
Scherzer’s counterpart from New York, C.C. Sabathia will be starting his first game of the series in Game 4. Sabathia is an extremely experienced pitcher. There will be lot of expectations on his shoulders when he steps onto the mound on Thursday evening.
The Tigers lead the series 3-0 and they have an excellent chance to secure a memorable ALCS series sweep against the Yankees. It will be interesting to see if Jim Leyland and company can start from where they left off in Game 3 to reach the World Series
finals.
