After just 8 points in game-4 LeBron responded with a triple-double. It makes good reading, but the devil is in the detail. The Heat needed their superstar to be aggressive. The verdict on that?
“Only two free throws,” said Chris Webber, “That’s not as aggressive as he should have been, especially with Wade hurt.”
Something isn’t quite right with LeBron James. After his clutch performances against the Chicago Bulls in the Conference Finals, would you have prophesized that LeBron would take just one shot in the final quarter of game-4 in
the NBA Finals. Or make just 1-of-4 in the corresponding period of the 5th game?
This is a two time MVP we are talking about. He is the “Chosen One”. And he wasn’t chosen to go mute in the Finals.
Dwyane Wade, for all his talent and bravado, cannot put down the Dallas Mavericks alone. He has tried and he has failed. The last two games in the NBA Finals are testament to that fact. Chris Bosh keeps helping out but it still
isn’t enough. These are the Finals. This is the biggest stage and the biggest players, all of them, need to bring their A-game if they want to walk away as NBA World Champions.
LeBron hasn’t brought his A-game to the Finals. However that’s where the next two games can still help him out. If he can record a triple-double playing the way he did in game 5, then he can do a lot more damage. That’s what it’s
going to take for the Heat to win this series - LeBron James needs to be unleashed.
The two home games coming up are the perfect platform for King James. He can rule supreme among his own and write down his name in the annals of NBA history once and for all. The feat that Miami are looking to accomplish, coming
back from a 3 – 2 hole in the Finals, is not as unprecedented as some will have you think.
Since the 2-3-2 format was introduced, three teams have achieved it. The last was the Los Angeles Lakers just last year. So, instead of looking it as a disadvantage, LeBron should be looking at it as an opportunity. And so should
the Heat.
With their backs to the wall and the world against them, this team that has continued to thrive in adversity has one shot at shutting everyone up. One shot for LeBron to right the wrongs. Because that is what an NBA World Championship
will do now, the circumstances are such. With the Heat now under the cosh, down in the series and just a loss away from ultimate defeat, they are the underdogs.
LeBron and Miami have the perfect stage to upset the odds and prove their credentials to the world and indeed to themselves.
The Dallas Mavericks have done only what was expected of them. They preserved home court in the last two games. Now the ball is in Miami’s court and it is to be seen how they respond. The task is pretty simple in the end, as Chris
Bosh put it in his interview after game 5,
"We fought hard all season for home-court advantage. We're down 3-2," Bosh said. "We protect home court, we win the series, so we just have to keep that in mind."
The opportunity is still there; let’s see if LeBron and the Heat grab it.
