  1. I  put  in  rat  breeding  and  got  several  sites  about  care  of baby.  Also  can  call  a  pet  store  that  sells  rats  and  ask to speak to person in dept.  Most  animal  persons  are  willing  to share tips.

  2. Note that breeding should only be attempted by a professional breeder. If you don't know what to do about the babies, then you should not be breeding.

Here is a site that is most helpful. It's an excellent place for info!

    Good luck!

  3. Go to this site They have alot of good info on careing for baby ratts..

    www.80stoysale.com/ratbreeding.html -

  4. How old is she?  It's possible the previous times she did conceive, but miscarried the babies.  Regardless, what's happened has happened.  (Though how you missed her gaining so much weight, I don't understand.)

First of all, you need to get the male out of there.  He probably wont' hurt the babies, but he will get her pregnant again. (If she's not already..)  and that's not going to be good.

She needs a high protein diet, so hopefully you are feeding her a good lab block.   Scrambled eggs are good too, though, as a side.  She should take care of the babies on her own, so don't worry about that too much.

Are their eyes pink or black?  If they have no color, and red eyes, they probably are going to be Pink eyed whites.   If they have dark eyes, but no color, then they're either young or not going to be dark colored.

Just make sure that at 4 weeks you separate the males and females into wire cages, so as to prevent more babies.

ETA:  Cat food isn't good.  Ideally she needs to be getting around 18% protein, and NO artificial junk.  No corn, either.  Mazuri or Harlan Tekklan lab blocks, or something like blue buffalo or chicken soup for the senior's soul (You need to use senior dog food.) is really the best.

  5. I highly recommend to google "rat breeding", there's a lot of great information out there. I'm not sure exactly what kind of info you're looking for - you say you have attempted to breed her before, so you must be at least somewhat knowledgeable about breeding rats. All the basic things that apply to a planned litter apply to an accidental litter as well; as one of the people above mentioned, get the male out of there a.s.a.p. - although, I suspect, she is already pregnant again; make sure she has plenty of food and water. Cat food is probably fine for her, as she's nursing and could use the extra nutrients; it could be fed in addition to her regular food. Generally, rats are good mothers and will take care of the babies; I think, the weaning time is about 3 weeks of age, and you have to make sure to separate males and females at about 4 weeks of age - or you will be over-run by rats in no time at all.
