Question:

Optical Audio question + Does my Samsung LCD convert analog audio to digital?

I have a Samsung LN-S4095D and I just purchased a new receiver that has an optical audio input. I have one HD source (HD OTA antenna) and one analog source (Dish box) inputting signal into the TV.

I was wondering if the TV would convert that analog signal to digital and output it as well as the HD to the receiver using an optical digital cable

Thanks!

  1. no thats not possible u need 2 buy the optical cable for dolby digital 5.1 surround sound

  2. Is this HD Dish Box?

Dish Box has to be able to pickup Dolby Digital Sound.

Does your dish box have digital coax audio (orange rca output)

Doses your dish box have digital toslink optical audio)?

If the Dish-box has Dolby Digital lable on it then you should be able to get digital sound from the box to the TV using HDMI which is true digital video and true digital audio.

    Component Video is Analog

Eventhough Digital Coax says digital it's really analog audio.

You don't need HD Dishbox you could get digital sound from regular dish box but it needs to have either digital coax or digital optical output. Then you can connect the output of the box to a dolby digital receiver decoder amp surround system. That's the only way it's going to work.  If you had HDTV ANT and you connected that to your new LCD then you could get digital sound from your set.

    So what you need is?

    HD Dish SAT

    HD Dish box

    HDMI cable

Then you can get digital sound from the HD dish box to your new LCD or just connect digital optical from the HD dish box to your dolby digital decoder recevier surround sound system The LCD TV can only do so much in surround sound. You need 7.1 speakers is the way to go now 5.1 is okay but when you do 7.1 if you click on this example and turn-up your  speakers on your computer system to here what I mean..

5.1 or 7.1 (goto the 7.1 and more the slide bar to the right)
