Optical Cable Quality?

Question

If i buy a cheap optical cable for my surround sound system, will i get a weaker performance than a cable that is more expensive?

Also, can you recommend me some cheap and good optical cables

Go to www.monoprice.com - I bought a lot of cables (mostly HDMI) form them for my hi-end system, and they work great!

Buy the inexpensive, but thick Optical cables from MonoPrice.

There is a HUGE variation in quality - but home theater just needs to pass the on/off/on/on/off.. pulses.  Inexpensive plastic cables work great.

Cost does not effect performance. Optical cables, if bent too far, will splinter inside and cause signal fidelity loss. Also, connectors on cheap cables are more likely to break. These are minor concerns though in my opinion, but if you have a coaxial digital option, it will perform the same and be more reliable.

I use Ethereal cables for my lower cost installations, including their optical cables. They make good cables at affordable prices, but you can get away with even cheaper cables in my opinion.
