Question:

Optical Tube - Mount with tripod BUT NO TUBE RING?

by  |  earlier

I finally got a nice mount including a tripod together with it. I already had my optical tube sent first. As I tried to assemble all parts together I noticed I coudn't get my optical tube attached to the mount. I took a peek at the manual noticing a tube ring at the photos.

No tube ring was included in any dispatchments.

What is going on?

  1. Optical tube assemblies sometimes include tube rings, sometimes not. Contact your dealer to find out whether tube rings should have been included or not. It's assumed that anyone buying an optical tube assembly is an experienced astronomer and knows what they're getting. That's why I always recommend that beginners buy a complete telescope.

  2. tube rings are optional on many scopes. you have to order and buy them separately. there may be several different kinds, depending on what you are using the telesscope for.

  3. What is the make of your telescope and mount? If they are different makes, and are of high quality, these tube rings will be an optional extra and you will have to pay extra for them. OTA's are exactly that, an optical tube. You normally have to pay extra for eyepieces, a finder scope etc. Nothing unusual there, was it shown in any sales receipt?.

That's what you get if you listen to a salesman who knows sweet F/A about telescopes and what you need.
