Optical drive won't detect CDs but will detect...

Question

Hi,
I've got a Toshiba Satellite PSAANA with Vista Home premium (32 bit). The CD/DVD won't detect any CDs anymore. I would put in the CD, it attempts to read it but it spits out the CD and comes up with a "Please Insert a Disk into drive D:\" message. However, it will recognise any DVD. I can see the drive in Explorer.I've tried uninstalling the firmware and re-installing will still no success. Any help would be much appreciated.Thanks in advance.
