  1. The "optimal" height is where you are looking directly at the center of the TV screen when you are seated.  It doesn't correlate to the viewing distance.

  2. There is no absolute correct height. The only limit I'm aware of ... and even that is a guide ... is the THX "rule" that says that from the viewing position the vertical angle to the top of the screen should not be more than 15 degree.

Screen height should not be be uncomfortable. That said a "rule" for screen height that ensures this is simple: your eyes, from your normal seating position (viewing height), relative to the screen should be at a height 1/3 to 1/2 of the way up the screen.

For a 50" 16:9 screen this means your eyes should be 8"-12" from the bottom edge of the screen. An average viewing height is about 37"-40", so (assuming 38" viewing height) the bottom of the screen should be about 30"-34" above the floor.

Distance doesn't matter, it's the size of the screen that counts.

    Cheers.

  3. Your line of sight should be 90 degrees to the surface of your screen, at it's center. If your TV is on a stand, the middle of the screen should be vertically level with your eyes. If your TV is mounted on a tilt bracket it can be higher because you can tilt it downwards. The important thing is to try to maintain the 90 degree angle.
