Optimistic Sabrina Chong determined to turn odds in her favour at the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s Mixed Doubles shuttler, Sabrina Chong, is quite optimistic and determined to turn the odds in her favour by performing well at the forthcoming 2011 World Championships, starting from August 8, at the Wembley Indoor Arena, in London.
Sabrina, with her partner Ong Jian Guo, is looking forward to play well this time in the world meet and establish herself as an elite shuttler on the world stage. However, she is also thinking about leaving the national team if she fails to play good badminton
in the mega event.
While talking about her future in the sport, Sabrina said, “I may have to review my badminton career if I play like I did at the All-England. For now, my coach (Jeremy Gan) has asked me to think positive.”
She further said that the couple has been working really hard in training but have failed to get any considerable output yet. Sabrina added, “Jian Guo and I have been working hard and it is frustrating when we do not see the fruits of our labour. This time,
we are going to press on.”
The duo failed to deliver a good performance at the 2009 World Championships in India, where they lost their second round match in the event. However, now the pair is confident to put up a strong show in the Wembley Arena at the World Championships.
Sabrina and Ong Jian will start their journey in the World Championships by playing against Chen Hsiao Huan and Liao Min Chun of Taiwan in the opening round of Mixed Doubles. The Malaysian couple lost to these opponents at the 2011 All England Open Premier
Super Series.
However, Sabrina is determined to win against the Taiwanese shuttlers in the first round. She said, “We want to beat them. A win will certainly influence my decision to stay on with the national team.”
By winning their first-round battle against the Taiwanese pair, the Malaysian duo will be facing India’s Jwala Gutta and V. Diju in the Mixed Doubles second round at the World Championships.
