Question:

Options for shipping large boats overseas?

I am interested in shipping a boat from Maryland to a country in Europe. The problem is that it is too large to fit in the standard 40' (or 80') container because it is too wide. Does anyone has experience transporting boats without the use of a container? I am willing to travel to a different port on the East coast if it is needed. If you could provide rough price figures or point me in the right direction where I should look it would be appreciated. Please refrain from the legal side of shipping as I am fully aware of that angle. Thank you,

Artem

  1. Artem, there is a company that does this. I don't recall their name, but call a yacht broker. I am sure that they will know.

Price? If you have to ask, what was it that J P Morgan said about boats? It will be between expensive and YEOWWWW,

but it depends on what country you need to go to.

    Also, check out www.yachtransport.com

  2. Do a search on 'international yacht transport' ..

There are a lot of choices from float-on to hoist aboard container carriers. All of them offer free rate quotes.

Dockwise is the most reputable agent with a fleet of float-on float-off ships.  Expect to pay between $500 and $1000 per foot to ship a yacht overseas.

  3. You could get me to sail it across. I deliver boats all the world and have done for many years and have done the crossing over 30 times in all sizes from 22ft to 112ft. I am currently in the process of delivering a 30 footer from Canada to UK but I am ice bound n Newfoundland at the moment!
