  1. For information  about career as an Optometry check:

Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008-09 Edition, Optometrists

  2. There is tons of math in the course!  Formulas, calculations, etc.  The demand for Optometrists is crazy!  If you do go, please, come to Western Canada when you are done!  There is such a demand here it is out of control.  We just had to close our practice to new patients as we have over 5000 now and we are booking well into the end of September and our old patients are suffering as a result.  In Canada there is only the University of Waterloo.  I am waiting for them to open one in Western Canada.  I have gone as far as I can go without actually going to Optometry school.  I think the benefits are HUGE!  Especially if you are in a position to either open your own practice or join a small one or two Optometrist practice. The satisfaction of personally knowing your patients, and not feeling rushed and like you have them on an assembly line is great.  I am at a one doctor practice and I would not change it for the world.  I think you would love it.  The whole field is absolutely fasinating.  Best of luck, and remember............come to Western Canada when you are done.........preferably Alberta :)
